The Platinum Rule sounds like a good idea at first reading. But in practice, I doubt it. Taken to its extreme, it posits perfect knowledge of other's minds – which isn't currently possible. (And I'm not sure it's desirable – where would the surprises come from?)

This Rule also seems to be founded on the notion that "I am responsible for you." Up to a point, that's fine – in a general way, if we're in a community of sorts, we *should* be responsible for and to each other. But it's also obviously in tension with "you are responsible for…
